Plastics Pipe Applications

Australia’s vast size and large scale water, wastewater and gas distribution requirements call for a wide range of special purpose systems to meet specific needs including the preservation of our environment.

The proven performance of PVC and Polyolefin pipe and fittings systems has seen a number of innovative developments, many carried out by PIPA member companies with the cooperation of major authorities throughout Australia.

As a part of PIPA's commitment, frequently asked questions about plastics pipe materials or pipeline systems are answered on the FAQs page. Common questions for PVC relate to sustainability since PVC has come under significant scrutiny due to the interest of green groups. Polyolefins on the other hand have no sustainability issues and questions mainly reflect interest in pipe properties.

The Polyolefins Technical Committee of PIPA produced a brochure "Polypropylene (PP) material for pipe applications", which is available from the PIPA office or can be viewed here as information on PP pipes or in PDF format (255 KB).

The Polyolefins Technical Committee of PIPA produced a brochure "Making it Happen with Polyethylene", available from the PIPA office or can be viewed here as information on PE pipes or in PDF format (269 KB).
