Training

The need for accredited tradesmen for the design, fabrication and installation of plastics pipeline systems is growing in Australia and PIPA is involved in ensuring that the supply of tradesmen meets the demand.

The Plastics, Rubber and Cablemaking Training Package PMB01 was released in September 2001 and contains Competency Standards PMBWELD301A through PMBWELD311A within the package specifically refering to plastics pipeline systems design, welding and installation.

This enables competent workers to gain Nationally accredited qualifications which incorporate plastics pipe design, welding and installation. Background and other information from this document relevant to PIPA polyolefin members, has been put together in a paper about accredited qualifications.

Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) interested in presenting courses meeting the Competency Standards PMBWELD301A through PMBWELD311A need to develop curriculums for the courses and maintain a register of accredited tradesmen.

PIPA recommends that for your training needs you should contact the following organisations.

WELDING FOR BEGINNERS

March 2003

PIPA has been developing strategy for the role it should play training people working in the pipeline systems industry. The area that requires immediate attention is fabrication and installation. The PIPA Board has issued a direction to develop a strategy for welding of polyethylene pipes. To gain first hand knowledge of the type of welding courses presented to the industry Dimi Pesudovs attended and participated in a butt welding training offered by Agru Australia Pty Ltd and conducted by Damian Hamilton at Waterways of Singleton.

Read Dimi's report, Welding for Beginners.
